The Link Between Spine Degeneration and Neck Muscle Deterioration: What You Need to Know
Chronic neck pain and low back pain are common symptoms in the general population, mostly in middle-aged and elderly people, and increase with age
Lots of studies have shown that when there is degeneration in your spine whether it is your neck or lower back, there is correlating muscle atrophy on the SYMPTOMATIC side
Why are your neck muscles important?
Your paracervical muscles play an essential role in maintaining your neck posture and making sure it's able to perform a range of motions like flexion, extension and translation movements
Your neck muscles provide 80% of your stability and your spine contributes 20%
when your muscles are degenerated, it contributes to your NECK PAIN
What causes degeneration of the spine?
Poor Posture
Cervical hypermobility - too much movement
Neck Overload
The area most likely to have degeneration in men is C5-6- where we find most people have lost the normal neck curvature
What to do if you have degeneration in your neck ?
The research showed that people with degeneration in their cervical spine are MORE likely to have muscle degeneration around the problem in the spine. This means we have to
adjust the spine to allow spinal tissue to function better
