Returning to the Playing Field After Lumbar Disc Herniation: What Elite Athletes Need to Know

Symptomatic lumbar disc herniation in athletes can be reported to be up to 75%

the research looked into a return to play time differences in patients who got operated on vs no operation

The results?

83% of patients who had operations returned to play, vs 81.5% of patients who DIDN'T have an operation were able to return to play

Thus NO statistical significance was seen in operation vs no operation

Operation patients took on average, one month LONGER to return to play
