Smartphones are the most common portable electronic device in the world. The highest group to use phones are .. University students.


As a result, we have higher musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in the neck


A report said up to 90% of muscle pain and complaints were due to smartphone use.


In Canada for instance, 84% of students who used smartphones experienced muscle pain.


In one study released in 2023 looking into smartphone habits, 91.5% of where the right side dominates, and 92% of people surveyed used their phones every day.

The majority of students used their phones for MORE than 4 hours a day


So what happened to their bodies?

73% had neck or shoulder pain


The most common sites where the neck and the right shoulder


The majority of the participants had pain for around an hour


The most common time of the pain was at night


The pain was mild to moderate with only a small portion having severe pain.


A different study, also released in 2023 found the following

- More pain is associated with use of a phone over 4 hours

- pain increases per hour used on the phone

- the shorter eye-to-screen distance, the more pain

- females were affected more.
