Can Cupping Therapy Relieve Muscle Tension and Pain?
Cupping can be quickly described as a technique to allow for muscle relaxation. The technique involves placing cups over the skin that creates negative pressure through suction
There are two types of cupping
- Dry cupping is noninvasive with no bloodletting
- Wet cupping is invasive and includes bloodletting
The high-pressure suction leads to increased blood volume, increased capillary filtration rate, and the expulsion of filtered and interstitial fluid in the area
The filtered fluid contains inflammatory mediators
Then by stimulating inflammatory cell migration, the following occurs
- increased blood flow
- removal of toxins
- the restoration of neuroendocrine balance
- improved oxygen supply and
- tissue perfusion
