Why Adhesive Capsulitis Should Not Be Ignored: Understanding Shoulder Pain and Treatment Options
So what is Adhesive Capsulitis?
Whilst the cause is unknown, people with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or lung disease might be predisposed to having this condition
Pain in the shoulder that is limited in ALL shoulder movement is often called Adhesive Capsulitis. There is often no trauma and is insidious in onset.
There are often 3 stages
Stage 1- inflammatory stage- we recommend sleeping on the unaffected side and on the affected side having a pillow for support to avoid internal rotation of the shoulder
Stage 2- stiffening stage - we recommend walk walking exercises, pulley exercises, and muscle stretching
Stage3- Thawing stage- Perform active Codmans and Wall walking exercises as well as rotator cuff muscle stretches
How Can Health Wise Chiropractic Help?
Management from chiropractors is most effective in the later stages. We focus on using Ultrasound therapy coupled with soft tissue therapy with Chiropractic adjustments to the cervical(neck) to aid in healing.
The best stretch to do is with the wand as seen below
