"How to Manage Low Back Pain in Pregnant Women with Diabetes"

"How to Manage Low Back Pain in Pregnant Women with Diabetes"

2024 research looked into if pregnant women are more susceptible to back pain if they have type 1 diabetes

They found the following:

  • Diabetes IS associated with muscle function

  • In pregnancy, low back pain and pelvic pain are moderate, but increase if you are pregnant with diabetes

  • The low back pain is getting worse in the 2nd trimester

Type 1 diabetes can manifest at ANY age but is more likely diagnosed before 30, up to 5% of pregnant women are affected by diabetes

The prevalence of low back and pelvic pain in women ranges from 30-78%

During the gestational period, the skeletal muscle is the main target organ of glucose metabolism, and its contractile potential is directly altered by the action of progesterone

How Chiropractic can help pregnant woman:

  • Adjust the fixed joints in the spine to improve spinal hygiene

  • Work on the surrounding muscles of the lower back and hip

  • Stretching the joints

  • Using the Webster technique, improving the position of the neonate.
