Frequently Asked Questions Asked about seeing a Chiropractor - Your local chiropractor answers 18 questions:

What do Chiropractors look for in a routine visit?

  • We are assessing your spinal and muscle hygiene by looking at your posture, and your range of motion and by palpating your spine and muscles.

How does a Chiropractor know if you have bad spinal or muscle hygiene?

  • We often see patients with a loss of the 3 spinal curves, tight muscles, and limited motion when performing routine tasks at home and work, and often complain of poor sleep, irritable mood, lack of concentration

Can Children and Adults See a Chiropractor?

  • Yes! We have written many blog posts about the benefits of chiropractic for kids and adults

  • Active kids and adults have subluxations in their spine due to the daily forces of running, jumping, falling and repetitive motions we have to do for work

  • Inactive adults and kids - whether it be stuck at a desk at work or at school, have a lot of load and pressure on the spine, which is worse if the 3 curves are not present in the spine.

Why would I go to the Chiropractor if I am not in pain?

  • Lots of people feel better after a couple of sessions which is great, the reason is that pain is the last sign of dysfunction and the first thing to go!

  • However, the underlying dysfunction is still there and then after a couple of months many patients have to return and start the whole process again of trying to improve their underlying bad spinal hygiene

  • So that's why after the pain goes, we focus as chiropractors on correcting the underlying dysfunction which means treatments are usually spaced out way longer than when you start to care.

Can I just do exercises and stretches instead of getting Massages and Chiropractic Care?

  • Going to the gym, exercising, walking and doing stretches are integral to your healing journey.

  • However all these things alone, and even doing just chiropractic care alone, are not enough

  • Chiropractors want to adjust your spine so you can move and function. This means we NEED you to do exercises and stretches, but those enough will not allow you to achieve all your health needs. It would be like dieting but not exercising, yes dieting will help you lose weight but adding exercise will speed up the process and make it more successful.

Is Chiropractic care ok with pregnancy?

Many patients find that chiropractic treatments help alleviate the aches commonly associated with pregnancy.

What types of sports can a Sports Chiropractor help with

Can your body become addicted to Treatment?

Many people fear that spinal manipulation is a habit-forming treatment.

However, evidence does not indicate that our bodies become addicted to spinal adjustments. If you discontinue chiropractic care, your spine may return to its original state- and after all the work you do to correct the problem, we don't want it to get back to a bad original state

How many Chiropractic sessions will I need?

This is dependent on each person in the initial phase - however to keep the spine in alignment after the initial phase- the research is quite clear and we have written blogs about them:

Unfortunately, gravity and time remain undefeated, so that's why many patients choose to get their regular checkups to make sure the spinal and muscle hygiene is at its peak, just as you would with your eye checkups and dental checkups.

Is Chiropractic Care Expensive

Not at Health Wise Chiropractic - We offer routine adjustments that are priced under the Medicare recommended rate and we also offer

  • Limited range of mobility

  • Exhaustion

  • Pins and Needles

Will my spine get too loose after a chiropractic session?

It's usually the case after a course of treatment that your spine gets STRONGER. With a well-adjusted body and the 3 normal curves present, your spine can do more, move more and will not click and crack as much between sessions

What are the common reasons people's spine goes out of alignment?

For Example - Bad Habits that can be destroying your neck hygiene are:

  • sleeping on your stomach

  • Sleep on more than 1 pillow

  • Sitting too long ( the average person sits for 10 hours, which is more than the recommended (6 hours)

  • Improper workout routines

  • technology use for more than 30 minutes a day

  • repetitive movements at home or work

  • Work lifestyle

  • Slouching

  • Watching TV for more than 12 hours a week

  • Playing Video games for more than 12 hours a week

  • Using technology to watch TV, read books in bed

  • Sugar in your diet

  • Gluten in your diet

  • Alcohol consumption

  • Smoking

  • drinking less than 2 litres of water a day

  • High levels of stress

  • High levels of anxiety

  • Forward Head Posture

How will I Know if Chiropractic Care hasn't helped?

We tell everyone that people's health journey is different, and just like trying a new Netflix show, after 4 episodes you get some idea if it's for you, same with Chiropractic, after 4 treatments we usually get to know your body and have a better idea on whether your health journey will be typical or is it going to be a bit more atypical and require co-management with another health professional.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling uses single-use needles (the same as an acupuncture needle) to insert into muscles to assist with the release of myofascial trigger points.

Dry needling can help with decreasing pain, improving the range of motion and function of the muscle

What is Cupping?

Cupping is an alternative medicine where cups are put on the skin for a few minutes and create a suction sensation.

We use a combination of glass and silicone cups

There are 2 types of therapy: wet and dry cupping

The theory behind cupping is the suction sensation creates hyperemia/hemostasis around your skin. Some cupping points are also linked with acupoints.
