Dry Needling or Kinesio Taping in muscle treatment ?

A 2022 study looked into the upper trapezius muscle and whether it would respond better to dry needling or Kinesio taping

Muscle disorders are one of the main causes of pain, one in three patients have myofascial pain syndrome ( this is when trigger points develop in the skeletal muscles)

We develop trigger points thanks to our sedentary lifestyle, as we spend most of our time in a static posture, in fact, research has shown that we sit for more than Half our day ( it should be less than 6 hours total)

The trapezius muscles function is

- stabilise the scapula

- move the scapula

- rotate the scapula and extend the neck

The trapezius, when trigger points are present, can refer pain to

- pain on the side of the neck

- pain on the back of the neck

- pain behind the ear

- pain in your temples

A major reason that people develop trap problems is a forward head posture

The results were great for either option

Both dry needling and Kinesio taping increased pressure pain threshold AND reduced muscle thickness
