Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a complex disease with a wide variety of symptoms and anatomic pathologies.


Besides pain in the lower back and buttocks, the main symptom is neurogenic intermittent claudication.


The combination of degenerative changes such as bulging of the discs, facet joints with osteophytes, and hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum (LF) leads to the various known clinical appearances of LSS

The study shows sex-depended differences in the perception of symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis and disability of life.


The findings suggest that the main mediators are pain perception and psychological influences on the quality of life.
