The GLOBAL prevalence of migraine as a headache is estimated to be 14.4%. Migraine headaches are ranked as the HIGHEST CONTRIBUTOR to disability in under 50 year olds


For woman, migraines are 2-3 times more prevalent AND more severe attacks with longer duration and have an INCREASED risk of recurrent headaches


Researchers looked into different diet types and if they could help with headaches


A woman with chronic headache used modified fasting diet with 3–4 high protein/low carbohydrate (200 kcal) shake a day. After ketosis establishment, the headache attacks disappeared. This effect remained for 7 months after stopping fasting


Another research looked into adults with chronic migraine ( headaches for more than 12 weeks) followed a low-calorie diet (1200–1500 kcal/d) for several months. Significant reduction in headaches days and abortive medication consumption was observed. Twenty eight percent of the sample reached complete remission from migraine headach


How Obesity can produce headaches


a 2003 Study found that there was a 5 times increase RISK of developing Chronic Headaches in obese patients versus normal weight individuals


Another study found that obesity is linked to more FREQUENT and MORE INTENSE headaches


Can LOW FAT diets help?


Several studies have looked into reducing fat consumption over a 12 week period and found headaches

- had decreased in duration

- had decreased in frequency

- had decreased in intensity


Elimination diet

- Chocolate

- Citrus Fruit

- Alcohol

- Coffee

- Tomatoes

- Carbohydrates

- Red Wine


Researchers have tried to look into the effects of a LOW SODIUM DIET , and the results currently show no difference in reducing sodium intake , but further research is needed
