Ischiofemoral Impingement: A Lesser-Known Cause of Chronic Buttock Pain

So what is ischiofemoral impingement?

Chronic pain is caused by the compression of your quad muscles ( the muscle attaches to the ischial tuberosity to the posteromedial proximal femur

What is the cause?

Hip abductor weakness is the most common - as weakness allows uncontrolled thigh adduction which approximates the femur and ischial tuberosity

What are the signs of impingement?

-Discomfort in the medial thigh, anterior groin, and lower buttock

-sciatic radicular complaints

-increased pain with weight bearing and or sitting

-difficult long stride walking
